Ref: Your letter No.J.31015/5/2008-D.C(K)/207 dated 11/09/2012.
Madam,
"In response to your letter under reference, I would like to inform you that Inter-State Boundary Pillar of Assam and Mizoram at Dholakhal area near Dholai river at Geo Coordinates N-2400 11.5", E-920 45' 46.5" was removed by the miscreants which was initially planted by Assam Survey Personnel during 1959-60 after conducting Boundary Survey and Demarcation and which is found to be the tri-junctional boundary point of Cachar District, Hailakandi District and Mizoram State. This pillar was identified and taken as referral point for demarcating the coupe area under the Cachar Forest Division while joint Survey and Demarcation of Bamboo Coupe in Inner Line Reserve Forest was done on 03/08/2012 by the staff of Dholai Range and H.P.C. (Panchgram) officials. On 22/08/2012 a report was received that this pillar was dismantled and removed by miscreants. Realizing the importance of existence of the pillar, it was decided to reconstruct the same on the same place and therefore pillar was re-erected by the staff of Dholai Range on 05/09/2012 on the same spot as depicted by Geo Coordinates.
"You are aware that the Union Territory of Mizoram was created on 21st January, 1972 after the year 1959-60 and therefore Status-quo Ante be maintained as per bilateral Agreement although there are some differences between Assam and Mizoram over the Inter State Boundary and the pillar should be put in place to maintain Status quo Ante. You would appreciate that this is not a matter of violation of Status quo Ante in the disputed area from the state of Assam side.

It was also agreed to hold monthly co-ordination meeting between Officer-in-charge Police Station Vairengte of Kolasib District and Dholai P.S. of Cachar District and, also regular co-ordination meeting between D.C. Cachar and D.C. Kolasib on quarterly basis, etc.
