"Agartala October 23,2018: Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, preceded by minister Santana Chakma and party MLAs Shambhulal Chakma and Pramod Reang have left for Mizoram to campaign in the November 28 assembly elections there. In the forty member Mizoram state assembly there are at least five seats which are dominated by Reang and Chakma community voters and the leaders from Tripura, specially the chief minister will be in charge of winning all these five seats from Congress for BJP, as assigned by the party's leadership. Four of the five seats are located in the southwestern part of Mizoram bordering Tripura and dominated by the Reang tribal voters who constitute the second largest tribal population in the state. Besides, Chakmas dominate at least one assembly seats encompassing their ADC areas in Chhimtuipui district.
Official sources from Mizoram said that chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb is scheduled to address a mass rally in along with Santana Chakma and Shambhu Lal Chakma tomorrow in Kamalanagar, headquarter of the Chakma district council. The rally will also be addressed by BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav and northeastern organizational in charge Ajay Jambwal. Tripura BJP general secretary Pratima Bhowmik who is already camping in Mizoram said that traditionally Congress was strong in the five seats dominated by Chakma and Reang tribesmen but this time the tide has changed and BJP is likely to win all five seats to set a foothold in Mizoram, the lone state in northeast where the party is yet to have legislative presence.
Pratima indicated that in the post-poll scenario the opposition MNF may have coalition-based relation with the BJP at the time of government formation. 'MNF can not have a pre-election alliance because of a genuine fear of backlash from the majority Mizo voters but when the question of government formation will come up there will be no difficulty in forming a post-poll alliance or coalition' said Pratima. BJP is looking to have a foothold in Mizoram which is going to polls on November 28. (Tripurainfo)" tih a ni.
